Search Engine Optimization for WordPress is really very easy. All you really need to do is add a few plug-ins, do a little keyword research and you are set. If I were to do nothing else, I would at the very least add these first three plug-ins and if you are not using WordPress 2.3 the forth:
All in One SEO Pack
Google Sitemap Generator
Simple Tagging – not compatible with WordPress 2.3.
And I would tag my posts with WordPress 2.3 tagging feature.
I would visit either Wordtracker free keyword tool or Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool. You could use Overture’s free keyword tool at: but they have stopped updating the tool and I think it is becoming less useful. Just do a search and you will find the sites.
Search for a few good keywords to add to the All in One SEO Pack plug-in installed on your blog or website. I would then write a overall site description in the All in One SEO Pack plug-in and add a few pertinent keywords to the keyword area.
I would install and use the Google Sitemap Generator plug-in and submit it to Google. Go to Google Webmaster Tools to submit your sitemap.
Finally, I would add the Sociable bookmarking plug-in. These will allow your readers to bookmark a favorite post to their social bookmarking service. The plug-in comes configured with these social bookmarking sites:
* Yahoo My Web
And lastly if you are using WordPress 2.3, I would add tags to your posts. These are keywords that best describe your posts. The tag feature can be found under the box you use to write your posts.
Now ad some kicking content and sprinkle a few keywords in them and you will have a site the search engines love. Just remember to visit a site to ping your blog after a post or add a few ping sites to your ping list in your Administration panel. Two good ping sites are Pingoat or King Ping. Traffic should start coming in fairly fast.
